The Real World 11: Chicago

Photobucket
The Chicago season debuted in 2002, with its cast living in a converted bookstore/coffeehouse in the Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. This was the first and to date the only season of The Real World to be filmed in the Midwestern United States. The season depicted cast members dealing witn issues such as romance, illness, recovery from alcoholism, as well as the cast dealing with learning of the September 11th attacks, although criticism was leveled at the series for staging this, as the cast was actually at Wrigley Field for a photo shoot when they learned of the event. Bunim-Murray Productions experienced a number of problems with the production of this season, including a nearby shooting, and numerous protests and vandalism by local activists, anti-globalists, anarchists and radicals critical of MTV and its parent company, Viacom, and opposed to the production's perceived contribution to the neighborhood's gentrification.

Assignment:
The Chicago roommates were assigned to three different jobs at the Chicago Park District. Some were lifeguards at the Lake Michigan beaches while others worked with inner-city children on a park mural. The cast then worked on "Chicagoween" and had to devise a story to act out for the children at Chicago's Halloween celebration.

    Reunion Show

The reunion was hosted by Maria Menounos. Cast members that attended were (in the order they were presented) Wes, KellyAnne, Brad, Sarah, Evan, Dunbar, Kenny, Johanna, Johnny, Veronica, Susie & Katie. First topic was the weather in Thailand, how hot it was and how it affected the competition, also Susie and Evan noted that the extreme conditions they lived in don't translate on camera. Next topic was the final challenge, Sarah and KellyAnne said that until the final puzzle they thought they had a shot at the money, Kenny added they had a bigger desire to win it than the Champions. Susie said that she considered making a deal with the Challengers but at the end it's better to win the money yourself that get it from a deal, Evan said that he had no doubt about Susie's performance in the final challenge because the night before she told him "nothing funny" was going to happen but Johnny said he had doubts all the time. KellyAnne said she would've loved a deal with one of the Champions but she would've gone for Johnny before Susie. Johnny said that deals were being made within his own alliance after Maria commented on that and quickly jumped on Evan for his "political decisions", Sarah defended Evan by saying that it worked and at the end but Johnny said Sarah should not comment on things that happened on the Champions team. Susie was pointed to be as manipulative as Kenny and Evan but Wes said she was more on the "evil side" adding he gets evil vibes from her, Susie laughed at the "evil vibes" comment and said that Wes was the evil one for throwing challenges, Veronica defended Wes saying he had no other choice and Susie ended that conversation saying not to call her or Wes evil, they are just contestants on a game show.

The Brad/Darrell fight was shown and Brad talked about his trip to the hospital and his recovery process. Susie said it wasn't a coincidence that the fight was with Darrell because he meant that Brad wasn't going to get the money. Brad then talked about how Tori reacted to the fight and said she was over it the next day, talked about their upcoming wedding and said he probably would not come back for another challenge without Tori. Footage of Wes' multiple fights with the cast was shown, Wes said he has never done anything to his teammates except for throwing the first challenge and that the Champions "ganged up" on him, Evan said he understands Wes' decision to throw the challenge but Johnny said he lived up to the expectations everyone had of him. Wes apologized for the fights with Johnny and Darrell, Veronica defended Wes by saying he had no other choice but Susie then added "Sometimes we must wonder if it's Wes or everyone else who is in the wrong."

The love pentagon (Cohutta, KellyAnne, Wes, Johanna & Kenny) was discussed, Wes said Kenny behaved better than he expected and Kenny gave him a "bromance hug", Johanna explained her side on the story and then KellyAnne and Evelyn's Ruins were discussed, Wes said he now understands that putting KellyAnne against Evelyn was the smartest decision for the Champions team and that it was not a personal attack to him but KellyAnne said she still doesn't understand why her teammates wanted her out, Sarah and KellyAnne get into a fight about it but it ends quickly. Sarah then talked about how Kenny, Evan and Johnny made her feel and why she cried after Johnny's comments. Johanna said she exploited with Johnny's comments and not with Kenny's because she had a "third grade crush" on him but Sarah said it was because Kenny and Evan make fun of so many people that it's normal, Wes said that it was time for the "I'm mean to everyone so I can be mean to you" excuse Kenny uses ends, Johanna added she was in Sarah's position with Kenny and Evan a while ago but it eventually gets better. Katie talked about the fight with Sarah and Sarah said that Katie apologized the morning after their fight so they have no problem with each other.

Maria commented on how this challenge broke the record of challengers being disqualified and the Veronica/Tonya fight was shown, Veronica said that up until the day of the fight she and Tonya were good on the challenge, that she didn't walked away because she did not thought Tonya would hit her. Veronica and Evan argue about Veronica being the adult in that fight, Veronica said Tonya shouldn't have been on the show because she's not stable enough, Johanna said they were both in the wrong for the fight but Katie said Tonya was in the wrong because she was looking for a fight and Veronica just happened to be there. Some footage of "The S#it They Should Have Shown" was played, Johanna discussed her situation with Kenny, Susie talked about Cohutta and then Evan, Dunbar and KellyAnne talked about Dunbar and Kimberly's moment in the bathroom. Sarah and Cohutta's Ruins were shown and everyone commented on how Sarah, the rookie, played the game the way its supposed to be played, and how Cohutta did great on his two Ruins wins, especially since he was the under-dog. Veronica said that Wes and Cohutta's Ruins required team help and direction and that's why Cohutta had an advantage. On a final note, Johanna and Wes left clear that they were never engaged, Wes called her his fiancee because it was something they talked about a lot, Evan said Susie was an asset to the Champions team on the final challenge, specially with the last puzzle and Katie apologized again to Sarah for the fight they had. The Real World: D.C. preview is shown, thus ending another challenge reunion.
